2.3 COOKIES
Thanks to cookies, a site remembers the user's actions and preferences (such as, for example, login data, the chosen language, font size, other display settings, etc.) so that they do not have to be indicated again when the user returns to visit said site or navigate from one page to another of it. Cookies, therefore, are used to perform computer authentication, monitor sessions and store information regarding the activities of users who access a site and can also contain a unique identification code that allows tracking of the user's navigation within of the site itself for statistical or advertising purposes.
Some operations could not be carried out without the use of cookies, which in certain cases are therefore technically necessary for the very functioning of the site.
While browsing a site, the user may also receive cookies from sites or web servers other than the one he is visiting (so-called "third party" cookies) on his computer or mobile device.
A common example of third-party Cookies is Google Analytics, whose information provided by Google can be consulted at the following address: http://www.google.com/intl/en/analytics/privacyoverview.html
Two macro-categories can be identified:
A. TECHNICAL COOKIES.
These are cookies used for the sole purpose of transmitting a communication over an electronic communications network, or to the extent strictly necessary to provide a service explicitly requested by the user. In other words, these are cookies that are essential for the functioning of the site or necessary to carry out activities requested by the user.
For the installation of these cookies, the prior consent of the users is not required, without prejudice to the obligation to provide the information to the user. Technical cookies will therefore always be used and sent, unless the user changes the settings in their browser.
They can be divided into
a) navigation or session cookies, which guarantee normal navigation and use of the website (allowing, for example, authentication to access reserved areas);
b) Analysis cookies (analytics cookies), assimilated to technical cookies when used directly by the site manager to collect information, in aggregate form, on the number of users and how they visit the site itself and understand which parts or elements are more appreciated;
c) functionality cookies, which allow the user to navigate according to a series of selected criteria (for example, the language, the products selected for purchase) in order to improve the service rendered to the same.
Technical cookies can be:
• persistent: once the browser is closed they are not destroyed but remain until a preset expiry date
• session: they are destroyed every time the browser is closed
B. PROFILING COOKIES.
Profiling cookies are aimed at creating profiles relating to the user and are used to send advertising messages in line with the preferences expressed by the user when browsing the internet. Due to the particular invasiveness that these devices can have in the private sphere of users, European and Italian legislation requires that the user must be adequately informed about their use and thus express their valid consent.
COOKIE MANAGEMENT
At any time, the user can refuse to accept all or some of the cookies used by this website simply by selecting, on their browser, the settings that allow you to reject them.
Each browser has specific configuration instructions. Further information regarding the procedures to follow to disable cookies can be found on the browser supplier's website.
